Best Fall Books for Babies and Young Toddlers
It’s really hard for me to pick our favorite fall books for babies and young toddlers. If I had an unlimited book budget, I would probably buy my girls every fall book there is. I really enjoy seasonal books in general, but there is just something about the fall books that I’m drawn to. Maybe it’s the colors, the coziness, or just my general love for the season, but whenever I put their fall books out on the shelf, I know that we’re getting ready to make some wonderful family memories.
So while this list is certainly not a comprehensive list of every fall book out there for babies and toddlers, it is a list of our family’s personal favorites. Ones we revisit every year again and again. Ones that continually capture my daughters’ interest, even after they’ve grown past this stage a bit. These are books that when I hold in my hands, I can vividly picture both of my girls flipping through them at different ages and these are books that I’ll hold onto for years (and hopefully generations) to come.

Favorite Fall Books

Interactive Fall Books for Babies and Toddlers- Textures and Flaps
- Baby Loves Fall– Karen Katz
- We have several Karen Katz books and my girls have enjoyed them all. So when I got this one for my daughter’s first birthday, I had high hopes that she would enjoy it. What I didn’t anticipate though was her looking at the cover and bursting out laughing because she was so excited about reading it.
- This book has lift-the-flaps, which babies and toddlers love. My daughter was giggling with every single flap.
- It also highlights some of the best parts of fall- pies baking, cozy scarfs, leaf piles, etc. For young toddlers who are really just learning about the magic of fall, this book is great.
- Fall- Bright Baby Touch and Feel
- This series of Bright Baby books are all great for introducing books to babies. With bright images and textured pages, they capture their attention easily.
- (Additionally- they’re great for older kids who are working on letter sounds and learning to read their first words. Each page features an image with one word underneath it. My preschooler likes to try and decipher the word while her baby sister explores the textures.)
- Not a Pumpkin! By Susie Lee Jim
- This one also has flaps! This one is great for introducing different fall sights like squirrels and bats- all hiding behind pumpkin shaped flaps.
Rhyming Fall Books for Babies and Toddlers
- Autumn Leaves Fall by Amber Hendricks
- There’s four books in this series about changing seasons. This one highlights the changes that happen in fall with leaves changing colors and animals getting ready for winter.
- The rhymes are simple and the words have a really lovely sound to them when read aloud.
- This is one that my daughter easily memorized when she was about three and would read it to herself repeatedly.
- Five Little Pumpkins– Touch and Trace Nursery Rhymes
- This book is a collection of different fall related nursery rhymes. Opposite of each stanza is an image that is traceable. Additionally, the holes on the side of the book are great for little hands learning how to hold and turn pages.
- Curious George: Curious About Fall
- I know I’ve said this before, but I LOVE CURIOUS GEORGE. Of all of these books, this is probably one that is better for slightly older toddlers, but I still introduced it to my daughter well before she was two.
- Each page has a fun, short fall scenario written in rhyming verse. It also does a great job of teaching the progression of fall- beginning with kids going back to school and ending with cold, cozy nights indoors.
- This book also serves as a great fall activity checklist for families as it features apple picking, baking, playing football, etc.
Fall Books with Highly Engaging Illustrations
- Biscuit Visits the Pumpkin Patch by Alyssa Satin Capucilli
- The Biscuit books are always sweet and a great way to introduce slightly longer stories that don’t rhyme and don’t have liftable flaps, but instead hold attention with beautiful illustrations and a sweet plot.
- In this one, Biscuit visits a pumpkin patch and along the way meets some new friends. It’s sweet, it’s wholesome, it’s one we come back to again and again (and read after visiting the pumpkin patch!)
- Eric Carle’s Baby’s First Fall
- If your child loves the work of Eric Carle, then these images of fall will delight them. As usual with Eric Carle, the illustrations are vibrant and creative- sparking curiosity and imagination.
Favorite Spooky Season Books for Babies and Young Toddlers

- Llama Llama Trick or Treat by Anna Dewdney
- We love the Llama Llama books for little ones. Simple, rhyming text with fun pictures- babies and toddlers alike love them.
- Spooky Pookie and Eek! Halloween! By Sandra Boynton
- If you’ve read any Sandra Boynton books, you know that they’re incredibly catchy. However, out of all of her books, these two are our absolute favorite.
- My daughter completely memorized them when she was about 20 months old. I would recite part of them and she would finish each sentence. By 2 and a half years old she was reciting the full book from memory and acting it out for us. Some of my favorite Halloween memories with my daughter involves these books. We absolutely love these.
- Where’s Boo by Salina Yoon
- There are a couple of books in this series, but this one is probably our favorite. Boo, a little black cat, is hiding and different Halloween related objects are found along the way. It’s cute; it’s engaging.
- There’s a page with a door on it that says “knock, knock” and both my daughters love knocking on the door- even as early as 12 months.
- Biscuit’s Pet and Play Halloween by Alyssa Satin Capucilli
- Another great Biscuit book, but this one has textures!!! Biscuit goes trick or treating with his friends and finds all sorts of fun along the way.
- Each page has different textures that are fun for babies and toddlers to feel. This fall my three year old handed this book to her baby sister saying “Here you go! There’s lots of new textures in this one for you!” It’s a keeper.
Favorite Thanksgiving Books for Babies and Young Toddlers

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday (I know, I know- but I like an underdog), so I wanted Thanksgiving books for my girls. They can be a little harder to find compared to Halloween books, but these three are our favorites:
- Biscuit is Thankful
- Another sweet, simple Biscuit book. Biscuit lists things that he’s thankful for, and it’s an easy prompt to then ask your toddler what they’re thankful for.
- Llama Llama Gives Thanks
- Thanksgiving day is here and so are Llama Llama friends and family to celebrate! It’s fun, sweet, and it rhymes.
- Happy Thanksgiving, Curious George
- You know what I’m thankful for? This Curious George book.
- Another collection of poems, reading this one on Thanksgiving Day is one of my favorite family traditions.
