Cozy Snow Day Reads: Best Books about Snow For Toddlers
I absolutely love snowy days at home with my girls. Instead of getting cabin fever, we try to embrace the coziness by snuggling up with some great books. And if the books feature snow, even better!
This year my young toddler has started pointing excitedly to pictures of snow on the page and then pointing outside to our snow covered yard. It’s so much fun to watch her make the connections.
Here’s several of our favorite books about snow for babies and toddlers that we’re enjoying right now during our cozy winter days at home.

Textured Books About Snow for Babies and Toddlers

Who Am I: In the Arctic
We love these textured books published by Little Hippo. Each page features a fun rhyme and a large textured animal. The silicon textures are really engaging for even the littlest of babies. The larger size of the textured area makes it easier for babies who don’t have a lot of hand-eye coordination yet to find the textures. Additionally, the book is a great way to introduce different Arctic animals, including polar bears, seals, and arctic foxes.
This is one that both my baby and preschooler love exploring. It’s available on Amazon here.
Winter (A Bright Baby Touch and Feel Book)
The Bright Baby Touch and Feel books are a great way to introduce some very common vocabulary to babies. Each page features one image and one word. Every other page has an engaging texture. The page with snowy trees on it even sparkles a little bit.
The simplicity of the book makes it easily adaptable for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers alike. Babies enjoy the high contrast nature of the bold, black words against a picture. Toddlers can start to identify and match the items in the book to items around them. And preschoolers can use the common words and images to work on phonics and identifying letters. And babies, toddlers, and preschoolers alike will enjoy the textures. It’s available here.
Lift the Flap Books About Snow:

Baby Loves Winter by Karen Katz
We LOVE Karen Katz books, but her seasonal ones might be our favorite. The flaps are large and the pictures are cute. In this one, a baby discovers all of the fun things that winter brings, including sledding in the snow.
These are so well loved in our home that we’re constantly taping the flaps back into the book.
It’s available here.
Babies in the Snow: A First Lift the Flap
Now for an absolutely adorable book that also has STURDY flaps- I recommend this one. Two polar bear cubs play in the snow and meet different arctic friends. It’s cute and the flaps are borderline indestructible- great for overzealous babies and toddlers who are unaware of their own strength and can’t wait to investigate the books with their chubby little hands.

Cozy Picture Books For Snowy Days:

Barn in Winter
This is probably my personal favorite book on this list. Animals are coming in from the cold and getting cozy in the barn. Each page is either filled with cool colors emphasizing the chill of the snow or warm, inviting colors highlighting the coziness of the barn.
As each animal gets inside and curls up, I can feel my toddler snuggling in a little bit more.
This is also a great book to pair with a farm animal themed treasure basket. (Read more about treasure baskets here!) With toddlers you could have them match animal figurines to the animals in the book OR you could have them act out the book with a toy barn to really make the book come alive. (We personally have the Melissa and Doug wooden barn and we love it. It’s sturdy, wooden, simple, and has that classic feel.)

Biscuit’s Snowy Day
We also love the seasonal Biscuit books. In this one, Biscuit and the little girl enjoy the snow together. They sled, they build a snowman, they play with friends, and then they warm up by the fire.
It’s sweet, simple, and cute. My toddler now makes “woofing” sounds with every page when Biscuit barks. They’re just wholesome.
Closing Thoughts
I know this list is on the shorter side but these books are so great that we haven’t really felt the need to expand our winter collection for babies and toddlers! We’ve been reading them over and over again and have yet to get tired of them.
